Lena Dunham is doing some major damage control after accusing a Spanish magazine of Photoshopping her image.
Taking to her Instagram on Tuesday, Dunham, a long-time advocate for body positivity, called out Tentaciones magazine for using "more than the average photoshop" on her 2013 image, which was licensed to the glossy by celebrity photographer Ruven Afanador.
"Why not be honest with your readers?" the 29-year-old wrote on the photo that has over 44,000 likes and 1,600 comments. "This is NOT what my body has ever looked like or will ever look like."
But it seems like Lena got her accusations all wrong, with Tentaciones explaining in a statement that they were not the ones who altered the image.
The statement on their website reads:
"Of course, we are aware that any means have to take responsibility for what they publish, but this photo was previously approved by the agency, photographer and your publicist. From TEMPTATIONS, we acquire that picture through the Corbis agency and use the original sent to us without applying any retouching. Those who know and follow our magazine know that we do not use Photoshop or other digital tools to change the physique of the people featured on our cover or inside stories. This time we just cut the original image to fit the format of our cover."
Thanking her for her "rebellious spirit," the Spanish magazine then went on to offer the 'Girls' star a free monthly subscription.
Dunham eloquently followed up to the glossy's response with another Instagram post showcasing the "not unretouched, uncropped" image and thanking the magazine for "being so good natured about my request for accuracy" and apologizing for making them "the problem."
"It's a weird feeling to see a photo and not know if it's your own body anymore (and I'm pretty sure that will never be my thigh width but I honestly can't tell what's been slimmed and what hasn't.) I'm not blaming anyone (y'know, except society at large.) I have a long and complicated history with retouching."
So there you have it, a magazine that doesn't Photoshop its images, but rather crop them. And we must say, both Tentaciones and Dunham handled the situation with grace.
