Julian Weekes was walking home when he was gunned down in Toronto's east end Saturday morning.

The 27-year-old was attending a memorial for his friend, Ceyon Carrington, who was shot and killed March 23, according to CTV Toronto.

Weekes was shot while walking down Parliament Street from Annie's Bar and Grill on Queen Street East, where the memorial was held.

Police were called to a nearby gas station at around 2 a.m. Saturday after reports of gunfire. They found Weekes "clinging to life" with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Toronto Star.

Paramedics attempted to save his life, but Weekes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following a trail of blood, police determined he had run from the scene to the gas station.

At a news conference Sunday, Det.-Sgt. Mike Patterson said police are looking for witnesses to come forward.

At least three people on bicycles would have seen Weekes running down Parliament Street, he said.

Weekes had also attempted to get several drivers to stop by banging on their cars, but they would not pull over.

Patterson is urging anyone with information to come forward, adding police would in particular like to connect with the drivers who encountered Weekes.

“The evidence that may be on your car is of interest to us," he said

“Julian was also in the company of many friends at Annie’s Bar that were attending this memorial yet as of today, no one has presented themselves to us for an interview and we are very interested to hear what you have to say.”

Friend's murder was similar: police

According to the Toronto Star, Patterson said Weekes' murder was similar to his friend Carrington's, who was also “by a coward carrying a gun.”

A witness told CP24 Saturday that he heard five gunshots and saw someone running south from Queen Street.

“He was a very athletic guy because he was running fast. I don't know where he went,” he said.

Toronto poet and performing artist Mustafa Ahmed tweeted about his friend's death on Saturday.

Weekes' death is the city's 22nd murder of the year, according to CTV Toronto.
