A little girl from Illinois knew exactly what she wanted for her birthday: to meet her favourite garbage man and surprise him with a cupcake!
Every week, 3-year-old Brooklyn Andracke looks forward to garbage day. For the past year, the little girl has excitedly waited for her hero, garbage man Delvar Dopson, to pass by on Thursday morning.
Andracke first started waving to Dopson from her window, but soon began waiting for him outside her house to greet him as he passed. On Bloomington City Hall’s Facebook page, Andracke’s mom Traci explained: “Every... Thursday, my heart is full when I see the joy that our amazing garbage man brings Brooklyn when he honks and waves at her with a BIG smile.”
On Andracke’s birthday earlier this month, the 3-year-old finally got to meet her hero. The little girl and her mom wrapped up one of her special birthday cupcakes to give to her "favorite awesome smiley garbage man."
"We were waving like usual and I motioned for him to come over by us," the mom continued on Facebook. "He pulled over, got out and gave us his BIG smile. Brooklyn was instantly speechless as she handed him the cupcake. I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday, and we really appreciate the honking and waving, and how special of a day it is for us."
According to Traci, Dopson revealed that he looks forward to seeing the little girl every Thursday as well, and even leaves his morning meeting early every week just so he can see Andracke.

This isn’t the first time a garbage man has become a hero in a child’s eyes. Last year, a two-year-old boy who struck a friendship with his garbage man had a goodbye party in his honour before moving to a new home. And back in 2014, a heartwarming video of a recycling collector surprising a five-year-old boy with autism with a toy truck went viral.
