Indoor Cycling: How To Master A Class At Spokehaüs

Posted: Updated:

If you watched season one of the Netflix series "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," you probably think SoulCycle is a sham, but take one 45-minute class (and burn nearly 1000 calories in the process) and you'll probably come out singing a different tune.

In Toronto, Spokehaüs is the northern equivalent of the popular American chain that was made trendy by celebrity fans like Alessandra Ambrosio, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga and First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama. Make no mistake, this is no ordinary spin class. Think of it more like a dance class ... but on a bike.

Riders spend the majority of this class peddling while standing, but instead of just riding tall, their hips, shoulders and sometimes even hair gets in on the groove.

It's what owner and lead instructor Christine Tessaro refers to as a high intensity, low-impact full body workout. And she isn't kidding — thanks to the addition of hand-weights, every bit of your body is targeted during this indoor cycling class.

In the video above, Tessaro teaches us a hand full of moves that will help you set up and move through a class like a pro.
