Hollywood may be known for its svelte stars, but comedian Rebel Wilson says gaining weight has actually helped her land some major roles.
The 36-year-old Australian actress reveled to The Telegraph that early in her career she toyed with gaining more weight to get more laughs.
"I was like: ‘Oh. That girl’s getting a lot of laughs, a lot easier than me... I think it’s because she’s fatter,’" she confessed, referring to a former co-star. "And then, I don’t know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought: ‘How can I get more laughs? Maybe if I was a bit fatter…’ And then suddenly I was fatter, and doing comedy.”
The "Pitch Perfect" star, who has a hormonal imbalance which causes her to gain weight quickly, went on to say she prefers to look at her size as an advantage rather than the disadvantage as some would see.
This isn't the first time Wilson has opened up about weight issues in Hollywood. Last year she told Australia's Daily Life she believes "bigger girls do better in comedy" because people find it easier to laugh at them. "It's very hard to laugh at someone who's very attractive, I think," she said.
Its a theory that comedians like Zack Galifianakis, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill might agree with. The funnymen who have received plenty of backlash since losing weight.
As for Wilson dropping a few pounds, the actress says she isn't opposed to it, despite those around her telling her not to do it.
