Although many championed the songstress for staying true to her #NoMakeup pledge, which she declared in Lena Dunham's newsletter earlier this summer, others shamed her with misogynistic comments.
Alicia Keys needs to stop with this no makeup fuckery. USE THAT SHIT. It helps!!!! -_- #VMAs— GrabbyStef (@stefi18) August 29, 2016
Now, just two days after the awards, Keys' husband Swizz Beatz is standing up for his wife and he's not afraid to shut down the haters.
In a video posted to Instagram, the rapper tries to make sense of the debate surrounding his wife's decision to forgo makeup over the past few months.
"Not your face, but they didn’t put makeup on their face because they just didn’t feel like wearing makeup. But you mad because that person didn’t put on makeup to please you? Type of shit is this? Cause you can do whatever you wanna do," Beatz said in the video.
"She didn’t tell y’all don’t wear no makeup. She just said that she’s not vibin’ with the makeup all the way 100 per cent like that. That’s kinda her thing that she wanna do."
As for Alicia? She just wants you to "do you," makeup or no makeup.
Y'all, me choosing to be makeup free doesn't mean I'm anti-makeup. Do you! 😘😘 pic.twitter.com/Mg0Ug9YA9q— Alicia Keys (@aliciakeys) August 29, 2016
So there you have it, haters. Alicia's decision has nothing to do with her trying to tackle issues in the cosmetic industry or YOU. It's just her choice and she feels most beautiful without it.
Honestly, we'll just be sitting here waiting for Alicia to reveal her skincare routine.
