Nearly Half Of Canadians Say They'd Boycott Trump Products: Poll

They won't be staying at Trump hotels, either.

Nearly half of all Canadians are likely to boycott Trump-brand products or venues, according to a new poll.

U.S. President Donald Trump's two sons — Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. — were met by protesters in Vancouver Tuesday when they arrived for the grand opening of the Trump International Hotel and Tower. Those protesters aren't alone when it comes to anti-Trump sentiment, according to an Insights West poll released the same day.

Forty-five per cent of Canadians said they were "very likely" or "somewhat likely" to boycott a restaurant, hotel or store in a Trump property, and 40 per cent said they would boycott any store that sells Trump products.

“Canadians are starting to express their displeasure with the political situation in the United States with their wallets,” said Mario Canseco, vice president of public affairs at Insights West, in a release.

“There are sizeable proportions of residents who will avoid the Trump brand, and smaller groups of Canadians who are ready to shun American products.”

One-in-three Canadians also suggested they'd cancel a visit the U.S. because of Trump. Three-quarters of those polled disapprove of the U.S. president. That number is much higher in B.C., where 90 per cent hold an unfavorable opinion of the leader.

The Insights West poll was conducted from Feb. 23 to 25, among a representative sample of 1,001 Canadian adults. The data was weighted according to Canadian census figures and has a +/- 3.1 percentage point margin of error.
