On Tuesday in Toronto, Canada’s 100 Best magazine announced the winners for their 3rd annual Best Restaurants list. The list, which was compiled by 82 chefs, restaurateurs, food journalists, and culinary experts across the country, is a must-read for both foodies and travellers alike.
While the top 10 spots on this year's list were claimed by old favourites, there was a lost of movement in this year's rankings. "More than a third of the restaurants included in the 2017 top 100 (35 of them, to be precise) did not appear on our list in 2016," editor-in-chief and food writer Jacob Richler said. "And 15 of the restaurants featured in our 2017 top 50 are altogether new to it."
And it's the new restaurants you'll want to keep your eye on. Alo — last year's Best New Restaurant winner — was this year's big winner, bumping Montreal's Toqué! to the second spot.
Check out the top 10 below:
Alo, Toronto
Toqué!, Montreal
Joe Beef, Montreal
Le Vin Papillon, Montreal
Edulis, Toronto
Hawksworth, Vancouver
Buca Yorkville, Toronto
Canoe, Toronto
DandyLion, Toronto
Pigeonhole, Calgary
Toronto got a lot of recognition on this year's list. In addition to claiming five of the top 10 spots, Toronto-based chef Susur Lee was awarded the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award for his impact on Canada's culinary scene.
