Aside from being a Grammy and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter, John Legend is one-half of one of Hollywood's most beloved couples. He's also his wife Chrissy Teigen's number one supporter — and he wants everyone to know it.
After Teigen recently opened up to Glamour about her struggle with postpartum depression, Legend spoke to People magazine about how proud he was of his wife for speaking out.
“I’m glad she wrote about it,” the "All of Me" singer told the mag this week. “I think it was powerful for her to let a lot of women know they’re not alone, and no matter how much money you have or fame, anybody can feel that.”
“For me as a husband, it was my job to do the best I could to support her and understand what she was going through and do whatever I could do to help her. I feel like that’s the least I could do,” he continued.
Legend went on to say men don't really understand what postpartum depression feels like so it's important for them to do research. "You should read about it and understand what it is and really just be there to help. You need to be present and you need to be compassionate. And we’re all learning and trying to figure it out as we go. At least do that and try to figure it out together.”
Despite seemingly having it all, Legend says parenthood and in particular postpartum depression can be a challenge for anybody "no matter how successful you are and how many resources you have.”
Though Legend makes fans swoon with ultra-romantic ballads, the musician insists he's not the perfect husband nor the perfect father, but he's working on it and admits baby Luna definitely helps the couple grow and learn together.
