We're sisters who grew up breaking bread together. We were the kids on the block who sat down for dinner only when our Dad got home from work, usually cutting well into our primetime TV lineup. While at the time we were slightly resentful missing episodes of One Day at a Time (I was Julie, Lisa was Barbara and our brother was stuck being Schneider), we wouldn't have traded family meals for anything.
Table talk. As kids, we sat down for a family meal and it was our chance to be heard. Not sure why, but it was the place that felt like it was an "anything goes" environment, where we could gab and gossip, tease and torment (yes, we do have an older brother) without much in the way of repercussions. Now, in retrospect, I realize that our parents were letting us freestyle because we were talking, laughing, interacting and away from the boob tube. Our mom served up fantastic fare and let us take it from there.
Today, if television was the only challenge and distraction for our kids, we'd feel lucky -- they live in a super wired world and are constantly multi-tasking by watching television while taking selfies while checking Instagram while creating Snapchat stories, all the while finishing that school assignment. You get the picture. We crave their attention and know that one of the only places we're going to get it is at the table.
Our dedication to family mealtime remains strong and that's why we've come up with these delicious family-friendly recipes, foolproof recipes that not only answer the question, "What's for dinner?" but also help you serve it up in a quick and easy way. We're giving you the starting point -- amazing eats -- for what can help transform dinner from mayhem to magic.
