Posted: 01/24/2013 5:12 pm

Now that Old Man Winter has us firmly in his clutches, it's only natural to want to flee to places that have managed to elude him. But children bring out the kid in all of us, so embracing the cold and snow opens up new and exciting possibilities to experience as a family. There's a family vacation to be had no matter your budget, but here are a few sweet ideas to get your imagination flowing...

  • Beaches Turks & Caicos

Frolic in the impossibly turquoise water, sip a frothy drink at the swim-up bar, test your skills on the surf simulator, or bake cookies with Cookie Monster. Oh yes, your kids can do all that too. Beaches Turks & Caicos is the ultimate family playground bathed in Caribbean sunshine, where tiny newborn travelers are as well taken care of as their tired parents, and every age in between always has plenty or nothing to do. We love the Caribbean Village’s succulent Jerk pork, the Bailey’s lattes (ooh la la) available in the French Village, and the Italian Village’s splurgeworthy rooms. Photo courtesy Have Baby Will Travel

  • Club Med Ixtapa Pacific

Fly through the air with the greatest of ease, on Club Med Ixtapa Pacific’s flying trapeze. Or let your mini-me live out your circus fantasies in the included mini-club, while you lounge Ocean-side with a margarita. We love the golden sand and the sapphire Pacific Ocean, the crisp white sheets and fluffy duvets, and the GOs – international students tasked with making your stay a memorable one. We also love the desserts created by the in-house French pastry chef, so we’re grateful for the expanse of walkable beach and top notch fitness facilities. Photo courtesy Have Baby Will Travel

  • Douglas Fir Resort & Chalets, Banff

Smack dab in the middle of one of nature’s most spectacular outdoor playgrounds, lies a resort with its own spectacular indoor playground, making Banff, Alberta’s Douglas Fir THE place for a family getaway. We love that after a day of zipping down the Rocky Mountains, you can zip down a crazy waterslide or climb up a two-storey play structure, that’s the largest in Western Canada. Free wifi, free use of Banff’s shuttle bus system, and free firewood for your suite’s woodburning fireplace all sweeten the deal. Photo courtesy Have Baby Will Travel

  • Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Québec City

Your little princess or mini knight in shining armour will feel right at home in this breathtaking castle overlooking the tin roofs of Vieux Québec and the mighty St. Lawrence River. Beautiful year-round, we love the added sparkle of the holiday lights on the ancient stone buildings and crunchy white snow. Suitably amenitied with an indoor pool and children’s wading pool, Old Quebec City is a mere 30 minutes from Mont-Sainte-Anne Ski Resort, so you and your family can work off the poutine and chocolat chaud on the slopes. Photo courtesy Fairmont Hotels & Resorts

  • Desroches Island, Seychelles

Dare to dream about this tiny, practically deserted island in the Indian Ocean where beachfront family villas feature private swimming pools and gardens. If your wave babies tire of frolicking in the calm, clear ocean, they can lace up their shoes or borrow a bicycle to explore the island and learn about the endangered flora and fauna of the region. We love that you can adopt a baby tortoise, or head out with one of the resident “fish whisperers” for a family fishing trip. Prepare and cook your catch (with help, of course) in your villa’s private kitchen. Photo courtesy Desroches Island
