This is as tragic as Porsche girl. Teenage girls have a lot of pressure on them when they're young, a lot imposed by media expectations from a man driven world. And it leads to suicidal or reckless behaviour.

RIP Amanda, one day I'll have a daughter and I'll make sure this never happens to her. That's the best I can do!

A comment below states cowards known as bullies, what are their names so we can label them cowards....I applaud this statement. Too many are hiding behind computer screens, and social networking media so they are never held accountable for their appalling behaviors, actions and attitudes..They are quick to label, alienate, manipulate and even humiliate...without a second thought of the consequences of their words, the consequences of their humiliation...they are given power to judge, to cast stones, to socially outcast...to manipulate to get what they want...what is happening to our youth, to our society, and to humanity as a whole, that we,in life and even in death, can be so cruel to someone who was reaching to anyone to listen, to help, to understand, to stop the hurt. I am completely outraged that this beautiful person suffered at the hands of her peers, at the hands of people she befriended and trusted... in her last flash card entry of "I have nobody..I need someone"...I could no longer hold back the tears, I truly could feel her suffering, and her cries for anyone to hear and know her story. It is so so tragic, that it took this action of her death...for us to listen.

Everything about the Amanda Todd case is horrifying, but before this poor girl is made into the moral emblem for a movement aiming at what will most likely be the selective smackdown of what we now loosely term as 'cyber-bullying', let's recall that she, like so many other people, have fled to the gregarious anonymity of online intercourse because (a) the technology is there, so why not do it, and (b) our society has a shrinking number of satisfying and/or meaningful means of personal communication and interaction. If anything, it almost seems as if the internet has exacerbated a loneliness already present and, paradoxically, one that now flourishes even more profoundly given the ease of online 'sociability'. The paradoxes never stop: for people so eager to communicate, it is the way the internet facilitates anonymity that accounts for so much of its attraction and obsessional use (I won't call it 'addiction' here).

The other disturbing aspect of this case is that the underage Ms. Todd issued photographs of her breasts to a more or less complete stranger on request, and that initiated the whole tragic ordeal. I fear that in the wave of moral indignation unleashed by this tragedy little or no attention will be paid to serious questions of personal morality and accountability, that these will be overlooked in the fervor of the moment, and that any so-called Amanda Todd Movement will turn into one more politically correct witch-hunt.

My daughter was 13 years old when we moved into our newly renovated house. She cried for 2 hours because she didn't like the floor tile I had put down on the floor. She was dealing with huge hormone swings as her body adjusted to becoming a women. Amanda was fragile at this time in her life. She needed help and was very vulnerable to the parasitic cowards known as bullies. What are their names so we can label them cowards

As a father of 3 boys, this is heartbreaking. My sympathies to the family. May Amanda rest in peace.

You know what I was aslo astonished by. Facebook is notorious for the monitoring and censorship of nudity (breast feeding and such). But in this case, they allowed one of its members to create a hate page and use as his profile picture, an image featuring this young girl's breasts.

What the heck is happening at Facebook? They quickly remove pictures of breast feeding mothers, On the other hand, they have allowed pedophiles and cyber-bullies to use nude photos.

And there seems to be a number of these cases coming out where people create these aggressive personal defamatory pages and groups on facebook. And facebook is just allowing it to continue happening.

Something needs to be done.

in the last few hours there have been quite a few new pages with the title of her name. One claiming to be director or actor is used to trash and demean her as a person. Many have reported the page however it seems like a feeding ground for young men to group together and insult her further now that she has passed. Very disturbing.
