DIY Mother's Day Gifts

Posted: Updated:

As a mom, I know my kids and my husband are always looking for that perfect mother's day gift. While I love receiving the gifts they buy me, what I treasure most are those handmade cards with stickers and glue, the beaded bracelet my daughter crafts in secret, and the music mix my son makes for me on my ipod. If you are looking for a mother's day gift that shows you care and does not break the bank, try making your mom a little spa basket. You won't believe how easy it is and your mom will love it.

My friend's daughter, Hannah, asked me to help her make some DIY beauty products for her mom. Hannah is the eldest of six kids and she wanted to do something special for her mom. We made a video of our project to demonstrate how simple it is to make a homemade gift that shows your love for mom.

We made an orange sugar body scrub using just orange juice, sugar, olive oil, and honey. Then we mixed a rose bubble bath with soap, rose oil, and rose petals. To top it all off we created a peppermint muscle soak with epsom salt, sea salt, rose water, and peppermint oil. We put each mixture into a pretty jar, tied it with some ribbon and added it to a basket. Its a very thoughtful gift, took about 15 minutes to make, and it displayed Hannah's creativity.

While you may choose a different kind of gift for your mom, just keep in mind that we moms love any gift made with thoughtfulness and love. Remember, mother's day is about making mom feel special. And nothing says special like taking the time to make something just for her. Happy Mother's Day!
