A Langley teen's attempt to slip by police after allegedly stealing a pick-up truck went awry after he unknowingly asked an officer for an escape route.
The 16-year-old suspect, called an active "prolific young offender" by police, tried to get away on foot after the trailer of the truck he was trying to steal got stuck on a telephone pole on Aug. 16.
After police sealed off a perimeter, a young man matching the suspect’s description approached a plainclothes officer and asked, 'Hey buddy, how do I get out of here?' The teen was arrested on the spot.
Officers were in the right place at the right time, Langley RCMP Supt. Derek Cooke said in a news release on Tuesday.
The unnamed suspect appeared in court Monday on unrelated charges related to a string of outstanding warrants. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges related to the attempted theft of the pick-up truck.
