Calgarians woke up to the rare treat of hoar frost this morning, coating trees and covering almost every surface, turning the city into a sparkling, winter wonderland.
For those not familiar with the phenomenon, hoar frost happens when heat in the air is lost to the sky on clear, cold nights, causing objects to become colder than the air. In other words, think of it as a crystallized dew.
