Quincy Butler, Calgary Stampeder, Charged With Assault Of Cab Driver

Quincy Butler, a defensive back with the Calgary Stampeders, has been charged with the assault of a cab driver.

Officers were called to Cowboys Casino around 3 a.m. Thursday after reports of a disturbance.

Police say a cab driver asked the football player for a deposit, after which Butler is alleged to have exited the vehicle, walked around to the driver's side door struck the driver several times.

A bystander who tried to intervene was also assaulted, according to police.

The driver and bystander suffered minor injuries.

Police arrested Butler and charged him with two counts of common assault. He is scheduled to appear in court June 26.

The Stampeders say they have launched an internal investigation.
