Rob Ford's decision to leave the Toronto mayoral race, only to be replaced by his brother Doug caught many Torontonians by surprise Friday. Reactions were mixed, with most feeling that perhaps it was time for the Ford brothers to fade from public life.
But that is definitely not going to happen.
Rob Ford stepped down from the mayor's race after he was diagnosed with an abdominal tumour. Doctors discovered the Toronto mayor has a "fair size" tumour after his admission to hospital on Wednesday.
It remains unclear whether the tumour is cancerous.
Michael Ford, the Ford brothers' nephew, has withdrawn his candidacy in Ward 2, and Rob Ford will run in his place. Both Rob and Doug Ford have previously held the council seat for Ward 2, which is located in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke.
