Lucy Edwards, Blind Beauty Blogger, Is A Pro At Applying Her Makeup

Anyone who has used liquid eye liner can tell you it's tricky to apply. But what if you can't use a mirror?

Anyone who has used liquid eye liner can tell you it's tricky to apply. But what if you can't use a mirror?

Blind beauty vlogger Lucy Edwards has mastered this art, along with her whole makeup routine, which she takes viewers through in a series of videos on her YouTube channel.

The 19-year-old Birmingham, U.K. woman, who became fully blind about two years ago, told BuzzFeed that it took about a year for her to become comfortable doing her own makeup, but that her sister Alice helped.

"At points I've been like, 'I don’t want to do this any more,' because it’s been so frustrating," she said. "Like when I've done my eyeliner, and Alice has said, 'It’s heavier than you would have liked when you were sighted.' And I’m like, 'How do you know!'"

In her first tutorial, posted last April, she takes viewers through her whole process, from primer to lip gloss. She looks flawless, but we're still pretty impressed by her liquid liner skills. She can draw a straight, clean line without poking herself even once.

"It looks quite daunting, but if you get the depth perception right, and it is really, really tricky, you might have to have so many goes at this, because I have been so frustrated by this, and also you might have to get someone to check it after, but if you get a pro at it, it does get better…" she said in the video.

The beauty buff has a ton of life hacks for the non-sighted, including using a more pigmented powder on top of foundation to hide any inconsistencies. In a more recent video, she shared some of the products she swears by.

While finding and reviewing new cosmetics is clearly a hobby of hers, she said wearing makeup also makes her feel like she's in control.

"I know that my face looks good without looking in the mirror. So I don’t have to ask someone, 'Do I look good today?,' because I know that I do."
