Rihanna's got a brand new gig, and it's not what you'd expect.
The 27-year-old Barbadian songstress has just signed a three-year deal with sock company, Stance, and will work as the brand's contributing creative director. She will also become an ambassador for the San Clemente, Calif.-based company, joining celebs like Langley Fox Hemingway and former NBA All-Star Allen Iverson as the so-called “Punks and Poets.”
"I know a lot of people are probably saying ‘Why socks?’ And that’s really the beauty of it," Candy Harris, vice-president of the women's division of Stance Socks told Vogue. "And that’s why Rihanna’s perfect, because she’s constantly innovating and looking to see what’s next. Socks are not really a trend; they’re a fashion staple."
And while the first full collection won't hit stores until this fall, Rihanna has released two styles that she's designed on the company's website. Numbered like a limited edition from one to 1,500, the crew socks come in both men and women's sizes and retail at $30. Over-the-knee styles, of which there are 1,000 available, sell for $26. The black, white and red design, which Harris has deemed "very Rihanna," consists of newsprint typography and horror movie poster art and features Rih-type quips like "Bad Gal" and "Murder Rih Wrote."
Of the partnership, Rihanna told WWD: "I’ve had a great relationship with Stance for a long time and I am happy to be working with them on such a fun and creative project."
