It isn't rare for people to return library books in worse shape than when they took them out. But a hand-written apology from a kid? That was worth a Facebook post by the Toronto Public Library's Main Street branch.
The library posted the following letter on Saturday, after a borrower returned an Asterix comic book that was ripped along one of its pages, CTV News reported.
The note is from a boy named Jackson and read as follows:
"I am sorry that a page ripped when it fell out of my bunk when I fell asleep reading it. It won't happen again. I'm sorry. From Jackson."
Librarian Ella McLeish was blown away by the kid's kindness, she told CBC News. "To have it from the child, who obviously wrote it himself — we just thought it was really sweet," she said.
McLeish told CTV News she was happy that Jackson was thinking of others. "Obviously they loved [the book] and wanted others to be able to enjoy it," she said.
Jackson's note has now gone viral. The Facebook post had just over 400 shares as of Monday afternoon.
Here's to a kid who knows the power of reading ... AND how to respect someone else's property!
