Now we know where Elon Musk stands on nuking planets.
The billionaire and CEO Of SpaceX has two suggestions for creating a habitable atmosphere on Mars, and he revealed them both on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Wednesday.
One is transporting large amounts of carbon dioxide to the planet and the other, dropping thermonuclear weapons over each of its poles.
"You're a supervillain," said Colbert in response to Musk's ideas.
“Superman doesn’t say ‘We’ll drop thermonuclear bombs.’ That’s Lex Luthor, man.”
The idea is to heat up Mars enough for the planet's ice to melt, according to futurist Michio Kaku. The melted ice would release carbon dioxide which would create the greenhouse effect, heating up the planet and making it habitable for humans. However, it will take centuries before that happens, he said.
Musk, who is well-known for his breakthroughs in sustainable energy, is also known for his dream of populating Mars.
He wants to put people on the red planet by 2026, 10 years before NASA, according to Extreme Tech. Not only that, he plans on sending around one million people by creating reusable rockets, saying that in order to populate Mars you would need to send a large enough workforce to build and operate mines, extract resources and grow food; all in treacherous conditions, he told Business Insider.
"Rockets are the only form of transportation on Earth where the vehicle is built anew for each journey," he said.
"What if you had to build a new plane for every flight?"
