Ottawa Police Investigating After 18-Year-Old Wears Anti-Gay Shirt To Saunders Farm

Julien Clément says he just hates gay people.

An 18-year-old has unleashed a wave of outrage after he showed up to an Ottawa farm wearing an anti-gay shirt.

Julien Clément was spotted at Saunders Farm on Oct. 29 wearing a shirt that read: "If you are gay don't approch [sic] me. I'll kill you."

He told CTV News that he's not homophobic and is not scared of gay people.

He just hates them.

"I hate gays for real," Clément told the network in French. "I hate gays."

Above the message on the shirt was "ATG" — the name of Clément 's "gaming clan," according to Metro Ottawa.

Clément, who's from Buckingham, Que., told the paper he wore the shirt because he once “had a bad experience” with a gay person.

Whitney Martin was at Saunders Farm at the same time as Clément. She said in a Facebook post that she alerted staff when she saw the shirt.

On Saturday night, my friends and I went to Saunder's Farm in Ottawa. While sitting in the Lodge, the guy in the picture...

"This is threatening to murder someone based on their sexual orientation," Martin wrote in her post, which has been shared more than 1,500 times.

"To the guy wearing the shirt, I sincerely hope you do not mean the words on your shirt; no one deserves to be threatened because of who they are attracted to."

Saunders Farm also commented on the shirt in a Facebook post.

"We are outraged, offended, and taking the appropriate steps to ensure a similar situation never occurs again on our property," it said.

'Blatantly hateful'

Angela Grant Saunders, co-owner of the farm, told CBC News that by the time police were asked to remove Clément from the premises he was already gone.

Ottawa police are now investigating.

"It's a very, very blatantly hateful and very threatening message," Saunders told the broadcaster.
