I didn't even know what the heck a prostate gland was until fairly recently, but needless to say, those little buggers have been getting an awful lot of attention lately. I'm not going to get into the details of how it works and the purpose it serves, but let's just say that, as a father of four, I consider its role to be rather important.
Movember is a movement that takes the health of this small organ very seriously, and Edmonton is one serious Movember city. Ever since 2010, a small group of caring and vocal women, led by Up! 99.3 FM's Kari Skelton got together to form Mo Sistas Edmonton. Like they say, behind every Mo is a great Mo Sista. These women have been organizing events, raising money, and educating those of us who don't know what a prostate is, where it is, and why we should get it checked out.
Perhaps my favourite fundraising effort this year is the Mocheesemo Burger, available exclusively at Delux Burger Bar (one in West Edmonton Mall, the other in Crestwood, and brand new location at 14111 23 Ave that is slated to open in December of this year). One dollar from each burger goes directly to prostate cancer research, and it's only available for the rest of Movember. Here's the lip sweater team showing off the burger, which consists of a grilled 7 oz Alberta bison, feta, roasted red peppers, sliced tomatoes, arugula, dijonnaise, on whole wheat flatbread:
Another cool fundraising opportunity is the Mo Sistas tank available at Thread Hill on 124th.
Whether-or-not you are growing a mo this year, this is something you should know mo about. Let's be healthy and happy. Love,
ps-if you're curious about where the money raised ends up, read this. They seem to be running a pretty efficient operation.Suggest a correction
