Is it nearly impossible to find a safe-rated sunscreen? I believe it is. This leads me to believe it's best to avoid being out in the sun at its highest as much as possible.

Now, with all those massive generalized statements being said, if you are in a situation where you will be exposed to a load of rays mid-afternoon, cover up and be sensible. But think about these things:

  1. We need the the sun's rays to produce vitamin D from sunshine. Sun block blocks this reaction.
  2. UV radiation increases free radicals in the body. Antioxidants counteract the negative effects of free radicals.
  3. Too much sun will turn us into leather hand-bags. I believe that too much sunscreen increases our toxic load. I would say use both in moderation.

Now what if I told you we can protect ourselves from the inside out and make our own delicious sunscreen beverage? Wouldn't that be amazing? Well we can and I did! Using some nutrient and antioxidant-rich powerhouses, I believe this drink is chock full of greatness.

The Delicious Players For Protected Skin:

Blueberries: A dark skin and high content of antioxidants protect this little berry from the sun's radiation and when we consume them, they help protect us too.

Raw Cacao: This is a true superfood with the most antioxidant flavanoid content out of any food tested. In addition to this, raw cacao contains important nutrients for skin health such as sulphur and beta-carotene.

Goji Berries: The flavourful superfruit berry from China is amazingly delicious and healthy. With great amounts of vitamin C and carotenoids, two skin supportive nutrients, consuming these are a sure-fire way to a lovely complexion.

Raw Honey: Our sweetener of choice, honey in its unpasteurized form is rich in the whole gamut of nutrients. It boasts a plethora of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, active enzymes, and probiotics to help our entire system function smoothly. It possesses strong antimicrobial and skin healing properties.

Hemp Seeds: High in essential fatty acids, the fats we need to get from our foods, hemp seeds can play a crucial role in our skin integrity. Healthy omega-3 fatty acids as contained within hemp seeds ensure a subtle glow as well as potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Flaxseeds: Another rich source of omega-3 fatty acids aiding in skin healing and keeping skin membranes smooth and functioning optimally.

Water: Healthy skin requires hydration and a healthy dose of water is just what is needed. Although water helps to flush out waste and toxins, it is also necessary in carrying nutrients into the cells. We therefore need water to get all our skin-loving goods into our little systems.

Drink it as a drink, or freeze it as icy pops. Love, sweet love I tell you. Love, sweet love!
