Like many Canadians who have travelled across the County, I had been to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan several times but it had simply been to "drive through." This fall, I returned to the prairies to learn more about the culinary culture of Saskatoon.
Scenery changes, people come and go, things break or wear out, the language switches from time to time... but there has been one constant this trip: my front tire. My Kenda K761, has lasted me through the good times, the bad, and over 42,000 kilometres.
The Dutch have a secret, and that secret's name is jenever. A precursor to modern gin, it has been drunk as "medicine" in the Netherlands since the Middle Ages. And what better way to pay homage to this historic liquor than to celebrate it with a festival, in a deconsecrated church, on a Saturday afternoon in Amsterdam.
