Naheed Nenshi is the Mayor of the City of Calgary. He was elected in the 2010 civic election in which he was originally seen as an underdog before overtaking a large field of contenders, in large part due to what voters saw as a positive outlook on Nenshi's part and by harnessing the power of social media in driving attention to the issues and as a means of getting his message out directly. He has continued with that tradition, often exchanging ideas with constituents directly on Twitter. Nenshi is a Harvard grad and was an instructor at Mount Royal University.
