With Ontario's new sex education curriculum ready to go this September, there has been a lot of commentary around educating children and teens about sex and consent. All too often, we scare our kids about bad touch and inundate them with negative associations of sex.
Like many Indian girls, I wasn't allowed to date when I was a teenager. But today, it's been a different childhood for my 18-year-old. In fact things are very different in my household. My husband and I do our best to cope with the reality that she wants to date, even though we never had the same opportunity as teens.
Why are we so quick to abandon the freedom of choice dating offers, replacing it instead with lightning-quick courtships and instant sexual exclusivity?
