Wednesday marked the end to Canada's "Bronze Age" at the 2012 London Games. Day five at the Olympics saw two athletes adding to Canada's growing medal count.

It started with the men's eight rowing team taking home the silver medal in the 500-metre race, where the squad of Douglas Csima, Conlin McCabe, Malcolm Howard, Andrew Byrnes, Jeremiah Brown, Gabriel Bergen, Rob Gibson, Brian Price and Will Crother powered past the Australians to secure a third-place finish. Their effort however, wasn't enough to put them past the likes of Germany who landed the gold.

Meanwhile, Brent Hayden brought home Canada's sixth medal of the Games with a bronze in the men's 100m freestyle. The bronze is Hayden's first medal at the Olympics, and the first for Canada in a swimming even at London. While Hayden placed third, Wednesday also provided two of Canada's Olympians with a second chance.

Michelle Li, of Markham, and Alex Bruce, of Toronto made it to the semi-finals of the women's double's in badminton after eight badminton players were disqualified for "not using one's best efforts to win a match". The duo won their matches against Australia to advance.
