Blame it on the sparkles.
Kylie Jenner received some flack this weekend after posting a photo on Instagram which many perceived as "blackface."
Yes, this again.
In the shot photographed by Marcelo Cantu, the 17-year-old reality TV star dons dark silver sparkles, which were received as more ignorant than glam, leading to comments such as "Kylie Jenner is the worst" and "Ugh, Kylie Jenner disgusts me."
People also turned to Twitter to express their disappointment in Jenner and the photo.
Kylie originally captioned the photo, "What I wished I looked like all the time", before taking it down only to re-post again with the caption, "This is a black light and neon lights people lets[sic] all calm down."
She also turned to Twitter to clarify what the photo shows:
Disney channel star, Zendaya Coleman, originally showed her support for Jenner's look, by commenting on the photo with several clapping hand emojis. But after fans called her out on this support, the 18-year-old took to Twitter to explain she reconsidered her stance on the photos.
To be honest, we can't help but think the photo is more 'Avatar' than racist. Other than that, the glam retro look suits Kylie well.
Moving forward, lighting and sparkles aside, we cautiously advise the youngest Jenner to be more wary of how her photos may be interpreted.
