UPDATE - Aug. 26, 2016: France's burkini ban has been overturned by top court, after being challenged by lawyers for two human rights groups. Women who have already received fines can now protest them.
But while French Prime Minister Manuel Valls appears to fully support the ban by stating the swimwear is "not compatible with the values of France and the Republic" and is "based notably on the enslavement of women," sales for burkinis have risen exponentially since the law was put in place. Even non-Muslim women, including skin cancer survivors, are buying the Islamic swimsuit that covers everything except for the face, hands and feet.
So although some parts of France may be trying to rid the swimwear from its beaches, it doesn't look like burkinis are going anywhere anytime soon. And the women wearing them below are as proud as ever to rock the innovative designs, while also letting the world know they can wear whatever they choose.
Keep doing you, ladies!
