"Every party needs a pooper, that's why I invited me, party pooper!"

Coquitlam RCMP will sing that song throughout the Labour Day weekend as they look to crack down on "Project X"-style parties leading up to the start of the school year.

The Coquitlam Mounties said in a news release that it is receiving information about parties inspired by the film "Project X," a pseudo-documentary about a teen house party that gets out of control after word spreads too far.

In the most recent instance, the RCMP got word about a party in a private residence in Coquitlam's Como Lake Village area.

Over 1,000 invitations were sent out through social media telling attendants to meet at the Lougheed Skytrain station before heading to the party.

"We are well aware of the Project X party trend and we know from watching what's happened in other jurisdictions that if these parties happen, they get out of control very fast," RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said in a news release.

The Mounties are beefing up resources to shut down these parties over the Labour Day weekend and the first few weeks of school. They'll meet with youth, prowl social networks and set up patrols and road checks to make sure they don't get out of hand.

But Coquitlam isn't the only place that police are stepping up their efforts. Langley RCMP are on alert after a similar Project X party was planned for the Walnut Grove area.

Police scoured the area for the party but nothing materialized, Coquitlam Now reported.
