Professional wrestling star Bret "The Hitman" Hart has undergone surgery for prostate cancer and is expected to make a full recovery.
Hart, 58, had surgery on Feb. 10 at Calgary's Rockyview General Hospital.
"Surgery's over and on the long road to recovery," Hart wrote in a Facebook post the day after the procedure.
"Things are looking up and I should be home in the next couple of days. In the words of Vince McMahon: 'It's onwards and upwards.'"
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hart's cancer was completely removed and the former professional wrestler won't require any chemotherapy or radiation.
Hart's brother Smith also confirmed on Facebook that Bret was recovering and doing well.
Hart revealed that he was battling prostate cancer on Feb. 1, on social media.
"I hope I can take the fight to prostate cancer. To be a leader in awareness and to set the example for men everywhere who find themselves in my very same shoes, that prostate cancer can be beaten," he wrote.
Hart's battle inspired men to get tested
Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre executive director Pam Heard told Global News that Hart's revelation had phones ringing off the hook. There was so much demand that the centre held a special event on Valentine's Day for men to get tested.
According to the centre, one in seven Alberta men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. When prostate cancer is detected early, it's one of the most successfully treated types of cancer.
