The winner of the 2013 Celebration of Light will be announced on Wednesday, but Thailand was the undisputed champion when it came to bringing out the crowds.

Thailand's fireworks display drew an estimated 300,000 to 350,000 viewers on Saturday, more than the 250,000 to 300,000 that Canada and the United Kingdom managed for their shows, the Vancouver police said in a news release.

Police reported that the crowd for Saturday's fireworks was generally positive and well behaved. Officers dealt with 481 liquor pour outs, fewer than the 612 they dealt with last Saturday but more than the 278 pour outs on Wednesday.

There were three weapons seizures, compared with eight last Saturday and one on Wednesday, as well as eight breach of the peace arrests.

Now that Thailand's night has passed, next comes the task of selecting a winner, which will be revealed on Aug. 7, organizers tweeted.

The Celebration of Light's judging panel looks at five criteria to decide who put on the best show: general concept; colour; originality; quality of production; and correlation of music.

Fireworks organizers also have an online poll asking the public which country they think put on the best show this year. The public favourite will receive an extra vote when deciding the winner.
