In a search for the quintessential Vancouver song, we rediscovered Ligia Oancea in all her autotuned glory.
Sure, you may giggle at her over-size fur coat and awkward sashaying at first, but this woman’s obvious civic pride is so infectious, don't be surprised if you make it all the way to the end of the video – even past the rap verse.
The Romanian-born music teacher wanted to give back to the city using her singing-songwriting talent, and put together this rousing tune, uploading it to YouTube in 2010.
“It’s such a gorgeous city, it deserves a song,” she told The Express in an interview.
We agree. But if Oancea’s proud ode sounds like more of a Vancouver-repellent to you, we’ve cherry-picked tracks from artists including The Tragically Hip's Gord Downie, Matthew Good, and the late Stompin’ Tom Connors that may be more worthy of your time.
