The year 2013 won't be known for Kate Middleton's amazing maternity wardrobe (and subsequent post Prince George-clothes) or Paulina Gretzky's sexy Instagram pics. Nope, 2013 was the year of the haircut and celebrities went nearly mad trying to outdo each other with their cool coifs.
So who came out on top? Well, it wasn't a person per se, but a specific haircut: The pixie. (And we can definitely blame/thank Miley Cyrus for that one.)
Take a look at the top celebrity hairstyles that broke the Internet in 2013:
Zooey Deschanel's No Bangs
We didn't even recognize the "New Girl" star when she <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/05/10/zooey-deshanel-no-bangs-met-gala_n_3254532.html" target="_blank">attended the 2013 Met Gala</a>. SHE. HAD. NO. BANGS!
Jennifer Lawrence's Pixie Cut
It <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/11/06/jennifer-lawrence-pixie-haircut_n_4227980.html" target="_blank">reminded us of Kate Gosselin's old 'do</a>. Not a good thing.
Miley Cyrus's Nubs
We hope it's just a phase.
Justin Timberlake's Straight Hair
But what about the curls??
Jennifer Hudson's Pixie Cut
It's her best hairstyle EVER.
Pamela Anderson's Pixie Cut
We never thought we would say this, but Pammy's hair is way better than JLaw's
Sure, RiRi changes up her hair almost every week but we were still surprised when the singer sported this cute bob that seemed almost like a haircut <em>we</em> would get. She's just like us, you guys!
Kim Kardashian's Blond Hair
First comes baby, then comes... blond hair? Sure, we'll roll with it!
Beyonce's Pixie Cut
Out of all the pixie cuts, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/08/08/beyonce-pixie-cut_n_3724896.html" target="_blank">this one is probably our favourite</a>, even if it only lasted a couple of weeks.
Justin Bieber's Baby Mustache
Hey, at least he's trying! Don't give up, Justin!
Anne Hathaway's Blond Hair
It didn't last long but Anne Hathaway's platinum locks, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/05/07/anne-hathaway-sideboob-met-gala-2013-photos_n_3232012.html" target="_blank">which she debuted at the 2013 Met Gala</a>, was one of our favourite hair moments of the year. Look how stunning she is!
Nicole Richie's Silver Hair
Anne wasn't the only one to surprise us with a new hair colour at the 2013 Met Gala. <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/06/nicole-richie-met-gala-grey-hair-photos_n_3225989.html" target="_blank">Nicole went granny chic (and then some) with her silver coif</a> which made her look like a witch princess.
Carey Mulligan's Long Hair
While JLaw and JHud were going short, Carey grew out her longtime pixie cut for a longer, wavier 'do.
Hayden Panettiere's Short Hair
It wasn't long after this photo was taken when Hayden added in some extensions but at least we now can say that we've seen her with short hair. And we loved it.
Kate Middleton's Ponytail
We couldn't believe our eyes <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/12/05/kate-middleton-roland-mouret-dress_n_4393577.html" target="_blank">when we saw the Duchess of Camrbridge ditch her iconic long wavy locks</a> (where are usually framing her face) for a modern mid-rise pony! Actor Idris Elba seemed to dig it too.

Jennifer Aniston's 'The Rachel'
We're sure hairstylists in the '90s cringed when they got their 20th request of the day for the super-popular cut, mad famous by "Friends" star <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/jennifer-aniston/" target="_hplink">Jennifer Aniston</a>. The hairdo, which became something of a bouncy, layered phenomenon, is one of the most iconic hairstyles in the world to this day, even though it's been more than 20 years since it first made its debut. Funnily enough, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/18/jennifer-aniston-hated-the-rachel_n_810229.html" target="_hplink">Aniston called it "ugliest haircut I've ever seen."</a>.
Much like "The Rachel", back in the '70s, you could just tell your hairstylist you wanted <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/03/farrah-fawcett-photo_n_2220463.html" target="_hplink">Farrah hair</a> and they knew exactly what to do. They'd proceed to expertly feather your hair, adding some bounce and volume for the perfect 'do. Fawcett's hair became such a part of her identity, you'd be hard-pressed to discuss her career without also mentioning <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/25/farrah-fawcett-hairstyle-photos_n_3491827.html" target="_hplink">that wonderfully sexy mane.</a> Get the look <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfGt4C2gG5Y" target="_hplink">here</a>.
The French are in the business of churning out fashion and beauty icons on a regular basis, and '60s sex kitten <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigitte_Bardot" target="_hplink">Brigitte Bardot</a> is one of the most memorable when it comes to hair. The blond bombshell took her voluminous bed head to new heights, rivaling the likes of Marilyn Monroe. Her cascading locks are still remembered and recreated today by the current crop of Hollywood starlets -- <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/06/30/pamela-anderson-style_n_3525439.html" target="_hplink">Pamela Anderson</a> and <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/kate-upton/" target="_hplink">Kate Upton</a> owe Ms. Bardot props for inspiring their million-dollar looks. Get the look <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt3mevqJ_fQ" target="_hplink">here</a>.
This hairdo may not be the most requested but it's definitely unforgettable. <a href="http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-beauty/pictures/25-most-iconic-hairstyles-of-all-time-2013254/30060" target="_hplink">Diana Ross' do seemed almost to rival the diameter of the moon</a>, and is still coveted today by celebrities <a href="http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/pic-kim-kardashian-channels-diana-ross-with-afro-wig-heavy-makeup-2012248" target="_hplink">including Kim Kardashian</a> and <a href="http://uk.omg.yahoo.com/news/solange-knowles-says-diana-ross-inspired-new-afro-083646256.html" target="_hplink">Solange Knowles</a>. We're not sure anyone has come close to matching the magnitude that is Diana's Ross' epic hair.
Audrey Hepburn's iconic updo in the 1961 film <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054698/?ref_=sr_1" target="_hplink">"Breakfast at Tiffany's"</a> is hair perfection. The elegant chignon she wore still resonates today with that little part of us that sighs wistfully at Audrey as 'that girl' in the little black dress, mini tiara and layered pearl necklace. Get the look <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pfgIPcZFj0" target="_hplink">here</a>.
It would be a huge miss not to include Marilyn Monroe on this list! The "Some Like It Hot" star's sexy blond bob has been mimicked by so many starlets, including <a href="http://www.lovelyish.com/2012/08/05/rip-marilyn-12-celebrities-with-marilyn-monroe-inspired-hair/" target="_hplink">Scarlett Johansson, Kate Moss, Madonna and Lindsay Lohan</a>. Her 1950s retro glam waves were an integral part of her image right up until her last days. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D57DM8t3wsg" target="_hplink">Get the look here</a>.
<a href="http://www.instyle.com/instyle/package/transformations/photos/0,,20290120_20488608_20946099,00.html#20946119" target="_hplink">Dark, waist-length hair, parted down the middle</a>. That was <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/cher/" target="_hplink">Cher</a>'s claim to beauty fame (we guess her acting and singing factored in there as well.) The '60s star still makes headlines today and has managed to keep her iconic mane pretty much status quo, minus the odd cut, <a href="http://hollywoodlife.com/2013/06/19/cher-hair-the-voice-finale-performance/" target="_hplink">wacky experimentation</a> and <a href="http://www.dailymakeover.com/hairstyles/women_celebrity_hairstyles/cher_sept_12_2010/" target="_hplink">curly adventure</a> here and there. In Cher's case, simple translates to memorable.
