While many people have been poking fun at "The Dress," the Salvation Army is using the viral phenomenon for good.
This week, the organization released a poster for their domestic violence campaign, which shows a photo of a young woman sporting a black eye, cuts and bruises while wearing the white and gold version of the dress that caused the Internet to have a bit of a meltdown.
The ad's message reads: "Why is it so hard to see black and blue?" The caption adds: "The only illusion is if you think it was her choice. One in six women are victims of abuse. Stop abuse against women."
Is it so hard 2 see black & blue? 1 in 6 women are victims.March 6, 2015
Last week, Scottish musician Caitlin McNeill caused pandemonium online when she posted a photo of a dress to her Tumblr and asked whether the garment was white and gold or blue and black.
In an interview with Roz and Mocha from KISS 92.5, McNeill said, "I see white and gold in that picture but I was there at the wedding [where the dress was worn] and it was blue and black."
So far, the Salvation Army poster has been getting mostly positive feedback online:
But not everyone was impressed:
