A B.C. man has been sentenced to six months in jail for violently beating the family dog.
Colwood's Joseph White attacked his dog, Bryn, with a baseball bat in 2014. The canine was left with a broken leg, broken teeth, and the skin on the top of her head split open.
The dog also suffered "neurological deficits that impacted her back legs, making it hard for her to stand or move around," said BC SPCA Const. Erika Paul in 2014.
White was convicted of causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal and failing to provide necessities to the animal, the organization said in a media release Thursday.
White will receive a three-month credit for time already served, CFAX 1070 reported. Along with his prison sentence, White isn't allowed to own pets for 10 years.
Bryn has since recovered and been adopted by a foster family.
