Even though Alberta's economy is lagging, the province is still home to plenty of good employers that make Alberta an awesome place to work.
In advance of Alberta's Top Employers list set to be released in the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal in February, we thought we'd take a look at some of the companies that have been repeatedly recognized in the past 10 year.
We combed the annual lists, compiled by Canada's Top 100 Employers editors, and ranked them by the number of times they were mentioned. To be the best of the best, we've listed the top 20 most frequently listed employers (those that tied are ordered alphabetically).
Only five employers made the list every single year: AltaGas Ltd., Agrium Inc., Enbridge Inc., EPCOR Utilities Inc. and Shell Canada Limited.
All employers with an Alberta-based head office or principal place of business are eligible for the competition, and applicants are graded on eight criteria: the physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
Unsurprisingly, many of the employers are in the energy sector — which might change in 2016. Plenty of other industries are also represented, from video game design to senior care.
