There may already be stunning getaways right here at home, but for those couples looking to escape it all, the options are almost endless.
While countries like Mexico, Italy and Fiji tend to be popular honeymoon destination spots, our very own Niagara Falls was dubbed the "Honeymoon Capital of the World" in 2014, Today Magazine reports.
Planners in the honeymoon industry say trends in 2016 tend to be experiences rather than beach holidays, or more customized trips like foodie tours and small boat tours.
"Mini-moons" — small trips after the wedding before a bigger honeymoon — are also popular, says Barbara Poczyniak of Honeymoons By Design. "[Couples] are staying longer in destinations and getting to know the culture through activities."

When it comes to booking these trips, honeymoon and wedding designer Shannon Coyle of I Luxe Travel says you should start researching and booking six to nine months before your departure date.
"If the destination is more exotic, I would suggest at least 12 months in order to secure the best accommodations, flights [and] vaccinations," she tells The Huffington Post Canada. Poczyniak says some iconic hotels in Positano, Italy, for example, need to be booked a year in advance.
And if you are on a budget, stick to hot spots at home (trust us, there are a ton besides Niagara Falls) and in the U.S.
And while some resorts tend to be super popular throughout the year — like Sandals in the Caribbean — both experts agree that you should choose a place that fits your needs, no matter how popular a honeymoon spot may seem.
"If someone has their heart set on an overly-commercialized honeymoon destination that is their choice and that may in fact be their perfect honeymoon," Poczyniak says.
Below, Poczyniak and Coyle suggest nine great honeymoon ideas for 2016. To help you out, we've also included the average price flying out of three major Canadian cities — Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Let us know, what's your ideal honeymoon location?

The spot: A multi-city cruise Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: Prices depend on the cruise company. Why you should go: If you don't feel like sticking to one spot and love riding ocean waves, a cruise may be a perfect escape. "Many great offers now also include drinks packages and discounts on excursions," says Barbara Poczyniak of Honeymoons By Design. "Depending on tastes and budget, couples may consider suites with balconies, smaller cruise ships with a more intimate feel, and romantic destinations like the Amalfi coast in Italy or the Greek islands."
The spot: Reykjavik, Iceland Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: $1,318 (round trip for two. Note: some airlines offer cheap flights from cities like Montreal and Toronto). Why you should go: "Only a few hours (flight) from Toronto, this is a great option for a honeymoon for couples who don't have much vacation time available or for a stopover while heading over to Europe," Coyle says. The country is known for its Blue Lagoon, stunning landscapes and of course many of the "Games of Thrones" sites — perfect for the couple on the go!
The spot: Bali Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: $2,841 (round trip for two to Denpasar). Why you should go: This island has everything from a variety of cultural gems to delicious local restaurants to hotels with majestic views, Coyle says. The island itself is also pretty tourist heavy, so you may want to check out some smaller regions for more privacy.
The spot: Spain and Portugal Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: Prices depend on your starting destination, but Lisbon is $1,706 on average for a round trip for two. Why you should go: Why hit up one place when you can hit up two? "Accommodations and cost of travel are very affordable compared to other European countries," Poczyniak says. Go for the site seeing, stunning beaches and busy street corners bursting with things to do.
The spot: Austin, Texas Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: $844 (round trip for two). Why you should go: "This city would be a great option for couples looking for a short honeymoon," Coyle says. Perfect for the duo who love music and BBQ for every meal, Austin also has historic landmarks and fancy spas.
The spot: Thailand Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: $2,343 (round trip for two to Phuket City). Why you should go: "Although the flights can be relatively expensive, once you get there the costs are affordable," Poczyniak says. You can also easily travel from one region to another — ideal for couples who are looking for something more adventurous.
The spot: Morocco Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: $2,492 (round trip for two to Marrakesh). Why you should go: "Markets to die for, luxury properties that make you feel like a Sultan and excursions that can’t be missed," Coyle says. Prices to Morocco will also depend on where you go — Rabat is a bit pricier and Casablanca tends to be on the cheaper side.
The spot: Cook Islands Average price of flights from major Canadian cities in the fall: $1,995 (round trip for two to the island of Aitutaki). Why you should go: Looking for something private and picturesque? The Cook Islands are a bundle of beauty.
