Okay, we're going to be honest: a few of us here at HuffPost Canada Style aren't the biggest country music fans.

But while our familiarity with the genre is limited, our appreciation for country music stars' style is boundless.

Between the cowboy hats, denim flares and of course, embellished boots, there's no denying that the country music world has a unique sense of style, to say the least, and we 100 per cent admire them for rocking their ensembles with confidence, especially at award shows such as the Country Music Association Awards, where the red carpet is almost wilder than the MTV Video Music Awards.

So in honour of the 2016 CMA Awards, which airs Wednesday evening, we decided to take a look back at the most outrageous looks the annual show has blessed us with.

A little sparkle and a little fringe.

We wonder what Adam Levine would have to say about this!

Remember when people wore belts around their waists over tops?
  • Shania Twain, 2004

The arm warmers are a little confusing.
  • Tim McGraw And Faith Hill, 2001

Tim's pinstripe suit. Faith's necklace. So noughties.
  • Jamie O'Neal, 2004

    We have no words.
  • LeAnn Rimes, 2004

The layered necklaces. The bejeweled empire waist. The big hair. It's all so much!

We imagine that coat was very warm.
  • Big Kenny and John Rich of Big & Rich, 2005

First thing's first, we're not too sure what's up with Kenny's Napoleon-esque jacket. But we're not gonna lie, we're kinda liking John's blinged-out two-tone jeans.
  • Carrie Underwood, 2005

    She's flying!
  • Dolly Parton, 2004

    So angelic.
  • Shania Twain, 2002

A full-on lace turtleneck bodysuit isn't something easy to pull off...but somehow, Shania did it.
  • Trick Pony, 2003

    Wowza.
  • Jeff Bates, 2003

    Quite intricate, we must say.
