Bollywood’s Priyanka Chopra isn’t afraid to take style risks. And thank goodness -- fashion without personality is boring. This week, the actress donned a Maya Krispin aviator-inspired jumpsuit for the premiere of "Planes," perhaps in celebration of her character, Ishani.
While updated with a metallic embellishments, Chopra’s light pink piece remained very vintage-inspired– especially thanks to her fingerwaves and retro makeup. So in celebration of the "Exotic" singer's daring look, we looked at nine more of our favourite Bollywood fashion heavy-hitters, and became increasingly jealous over their red carpet wardrobes.

20 years after winning Miss World, the current L’Oreal spokesperson still turns heads thanks to her red carpet style and beautiful saris she consistently one-ups at each event. Case in point: the gold style she wore to Cannes this year, which she channeled (kind of) through the gold metallic top she donned at the Chime for Change: The Sound of Change Live concert in London in July. Here’s to 20 and many more years of fashion hits.
2. Priyanka Chopra
While bringing it to the red carpet and in Pitbull’s video for “Exotic,” Chopra even dazzles in casual settings, proving that style staples trump flighty fashion trends. Last month, the actress visited Millions of Milkshakes in Los Angeles to christen her own milkshake flavor, and donned a floral tuxedo blazer, black skinny jeans, and a brand t-shirt; this, in addition to her saris which remain nothing less than mesmerizing.
3. Sonam Kapoor
One of fashion’s biggest risk-takers, 28-year-old Sonam Kapoor has already gone from wearing Dolce & Gabanna to Barbara Casasola to Alexander McQueen in the span of a year, and earning accolades as a result. Most recently, Sonam picked up the Beauty of the Year award at the 2013 Vogue Beauty Awards in Mumbai, while wearing a floor-length long-sleeved black McQueen dress embellished with gold embroidery around the neckline and cuffs. Who else is thinking metallics for Fall 2013?
4. Alia Bhatt
At only 20 years old, Alia Bhatt has made quite the name for herself, having already landed the cover of Harper’s Bazaar India (in a sleek grey gown and fresh bob haircut), and also becoming the face of Garnier and Maybelline there, too. However, she keeps her style accessible: rocking a sheer blouse and cut-offs at the premiere of "Murder 3" in Mumbai last February, she’s easily a woman unafraid to embrace what makes her comfortable and on-trend.
5. Katrina Kaif
While already a veteran model (the 29-year-old began modeling at 14), the now-Indian-British actress is picking up even more momentum style-wise, donning everything from a simple pink knee-length dress at a February birthday party to a ruffled – nay, tiered – sari at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Remember: you heard it here. (And also everywhere else.)
6. Mallika Sherawat
Premiering her new reality series last May in a red Alexander Wang dress and beige Louboutins, the 36-year-old actress also has a reputation for vamping it up, especially thanks to the floor-length, long-sleeved Dolce and Gabanna grey lace gown she wore at Cannes. However, that wasn’t her only choice: she maintained the Dolce and Gabanna-meets-lace theme with another neutral gown at the festival, this time trading sleeves in for a strapless corset top and full, floor-length skirt. Some may say safe, we say vintage (and arguably very Oscar-appropriate).
7. Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan isn’t afraid of fashion critics, which is exactly why we love her daring style. Often landing on extreme best or extreme worst lists (for this actress, there is no middle-ground), the 35-year-old Cannes juror is renowned for her use of colour (particularly her yellow, green, and red ensemble at this year’s IMC Women Entrepreneurs’ exhibition), and for her use of cultural influences – particularly at (you guessed it) Cannes, where she paired a black and white Sabyasachi lehenga with a white net dupatta.
8. Anushka Sharma
Landing on the covers of both Maxim India and Vogue India this past July, the young actress has already adopted a distinct taste for renowned designers. Last month, Sharma walked the carpet of the IIFAs in a white pleated and embellished Robert Cavalli gown, which she paired with straight hair and minimal makeup. She also kept that understated look up the airport, where she donned red Zara smoking slippers with white cigarette pants, and a denim button-up. To answer your question, yes, we would like to borrow her clothes.
9. Bipasha Basu
Walking the catwalk at Lakme Fashion Week in March (where she donned a piece by designers Shantanu and Nikhil), Bipasha Basu’s style influence was evident – especially since the 34-year-old was used as part of the grand finale. However, that fashion reputation is not without being deserved: at the premiere of "Aatma," the model/actress wore a short, colourful, embroidered mini-dress in huge contrast to the grey gown she opted for at the India Fashion Awards.
10. Sonakshi Sinha
Currently gearing up for the release of "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara," the 26-year-old actress is also earning hype for her – you guessed it – style. Having paired a white button-up with black skinny trousers and seafoam heels at an event last week, the actress also walked the runway at a show in Bengaluru the week before, showcasing stunning sarees by Rajguru, which are on-point with her red carpet legacy of embracing colour and patterns fearlessly. Needless to say, teach us how to be bold, Ms. Sinha.
