Jessica Kane just made us re-evaluate posting pictures online.
The publisher and owner of plus-size magazine Skorch received much applause when she posted a picture of herself in a swimsuit to Facebook and Instagram. We all know that posting to social media is an invite for the commentary of others, however, Kane was quick to explain that her choice to post the photo was not a "brave" one.
"A family battling tragic illness, a mother trying to beat addiction, a person trying to break free of domestic violence, reaching out for help when you have already planned your suicide and feel like you can't breath[sic] one more day. THAT is brave. Not wearing a swimsuit at the beach," she wrote in the post. "LIVE life and only worry about what really matters."
And while we see why some people would consider Kane "brave" for posting the photo, we totally understand where she's coming from.
As Bustle's Jodie Layn puts it, "Wearing clothing shouldn’t have to be something that we applaud people for. I dream of the day when this is so normal and so common that it’s not even on our radar anymore."
We have to say, the fashion blogger behind "Life And Stye Of Jessica" looks amazing in her black and hot pink bathing suit and ultra-glam sunglasses. Her short hair is perfect for summer, and we will totally be stealing this look to rock at the beach. When you look this good, why not snap a pic?
And on the heels of Lane Bryant's "I'm No Angel" campaign and Dove's "Choose Beautiful" campaign, Kane is reminding us that confidence and bravery don't have to be interchangeable.
You go girl.
